Are you drinking enough water??
Water is important…everyone knows that, but not everyone like to drink water. It has no taste, its hard to drink it during the day, “sweet tea is considered water right?”…
There are alot of people that don’t like to drink water so don’t feel bad if you’re in that group. But let me explain to you WHY it is so important to drink water EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
It might not seem like a big part of your health and fitness lifestyle but drinking water can elevate you to the next level of health and fitness. You are not reaching your potential, maximizing your results or reaching your goals if you aren’t drinking enough water.
Alot of people don’t take their water intake seriously…and if you’re one of them its okay…we’ve all been there. Hopefully this little article helps you realize drinking more water WILL take you to the next level.
Water plays a huge role in our health and our results! I know most people think about drinking water as an afterthought, I know I did for a long time. It wasn’t on my list of things I needed to do for the day. I drank when I was thirsty, when I was working out, and it was in my protein shakes…so isn’t that enough?
So before I get too deep into drinking enough water…what is enough?
It will be different for each person based off bio metrics like sex, age, weight, activity level, lifestyle and so on…but a good baseline/starting point is 100 to 120 oz a day.
Water is essential to life and to reaching your goals!! It doesn’t matter what your body type is, your lifestyle, how hard you workout…if you don’t drink water you won’t reach your goals!
Benefits of drinking water:
Brain Function- without water your brain doesn’t function at its peak!
Metabolizing Fat
Regulating Body Temperature
Digestion
Proper Joint Function
Nutrient Delivery
Just to name a few…
And when you are not drinking enough water…the consequences are hard.
Your performance struggles, your brain function is slower, you feel weak…all signs of DEHYDRATION
When you are dehydrated your performance struggles, your body feels weaker, and your brain feels fatigued. Mentally you won’t be as sharp during the day or during your workouts. You might not notice this at first but soon you’ll realize something is wrong…and all from not drinking enough water.
So why do people have such a hard time drinking water?
I’ve noticed this working with clients and even with myself, it’s not something people think is important in your routine to reach your goals. Drinking water is no different to any of supplements, routines, daily tasks you do to reach your fitness goals. IT REQUIRES CONSISTENCY! And over time you will reap the benefits of drinking all that water.
But one thing is for sure, if you aren’t consistent in drinking water daily you will not reach your goals. Now you may have to make some life adjustments to reach this goal everyday and that’s okay…sometimes sacrifices need to be made to break the bad habits and introduce new, healthy ones.
Just like you know you need to workout every day to lose weight…
You need to understand how to make small lifestyle changes to reach those fitness goals.
Invest in yourself and invest in making those small lifestyle changes to reach your fitness goals!
Now one thing I know everyone is thinking… “I’m going to have to pee like 100 times!” and yes you probably will!!
But that is NOT a bad thing!! It’s actually helping rid your body of toxins and waste products. Also you’ll get those extra steps in during the day walking to and from the bathroom…also an investment in your health!!
If going to the bathroom a few more times during the day sounds like extra work to you then you need a mental check because you aren’t ready to start a healthy lifestyle with that mindset.
So what can help you drink more water??
Carry a water bottle around with you ALL DAY!! As much as that sounds like a hassle it really does help. And if you get a 32 oz water bottle reaching 100oz for the day won’t be too hard.
Every time you finish a bottle, track it! Using an app like MY TRANSPHORMATION APP, or something like it. Or writing it down in a food journal, or even writing in on the bottle itself! Keeping track and watching yourself get to your goal will help you stay consistent reaching it.
Another way to remind yourself to drink more water is putting a silent alarm on your phone. And throughout the day when it goes off make sure to drink your water!!
After a few weeks this becomes habit and drinking water will become easy…so the main thing to figure out is how YOU will find a way to drink your water during the day. There are so many ways to track and remember you just need to find the routine that works for you.
I hope this article was helpful and gave you some ideas on how to get more water into your daily routine. By drinking enough water it will keep you hydrated, awake, energized and keep you in a fat burning state. Keep a bottle on you all the time, fill it up when it’s empty and keep on chuggin ;)
Nothing comes easy…if it did everyone would do it.
